Meet Doc Tom
// Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician
About William C. "Tom" Thompson II, DO
For more than four decades, Dr. William C. “Tom” Thompson II has provided trusted family medicine to generations of patients throughout Monroe City and the surrounding communities.
For more than four decades, Dr. William C. “Tom” Thompson II has cared for patients and families in Monroe City and the surrounding communities. His connection to the area, however, extends far beyond his years in medical practice. Born and raised in Monroe City, Dr. Thompson returned home after completing his medical training to continue a family tradition of medicine and community service that now spans three generations.
Dr. Thompson earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Indiana University and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University. Following his internship and residency training in Chicago, he returned to Monroe City in 1982 and joined the family practice established by his father.
Since that time, Dr. Thompson has devoted his career to comprehensive family medicine and to the long-term relationships that are at the heart of small-town medical care. Over the years, he has had the privilege of caring for multiple generations of many families – often watching children grow into adults and later caring for their children and grandchildren. He believes that knowing a patient’s history, family, occupation, and community can provide an understanding that extends well beyond what appears in the medical record.
Throughout his career, Dr. Thompson has also been active in physician leadership and medical education. He has served in numerous leadership roles at Good Samaritan Hospital, including chairing Emergency Services, Family Practice, Utilization Review, and other medical staff committees. He has held faculty appointments with multiple colleges of osteopathic medicine and has helped teach and mentor medical students, residents, and future family physicians.
His commitment to service extends well beyond medicine. Dr. Thompson has spent decades supporting education, youth athletics, community development, and wildlife conservation
throughout Knox County. His involvement has included service with the South Knox School Corporation, Knox County Community Foundation, Blue Jeans Community Center, youth basketball programs, and local and national wildlife conservation organizations. He has helped lead community projects and fundraising efforts aimed at creating opportunities and improving the quality of life for future generations.
At the center of Dr. Thompson’s approach to medicine is a simple philosophy: listen first. He believes that excellent medical care begins with understanding each patient as an individual.
Whether providing preventive care, treating an acute illness, managing a chronic condition, or coordinating specialty care, his goal is to provide thoughtful, personalized medicine while helping patients live healthier lives with confidence and peace of mind.
Outside the clinic, Doc Tom enjoys spending time with his family, Indiana University basketball, hunting, fishing, and wildlife and wetland conservation. His roots in Monroe City run deep, and the values of family, service, stewardship, and community that brought him home more than four decades ago continue to guide both his medical practice and his life.
