Meet Dr. Will Thompson

// Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician

About William C. "Will" Thompson III, DO

Continuing a three-generation family legacy of care, Dr. Will Thompson provides personalized care for patients of all ages throughout Monroe City, Knox County, and the surrounding communities.

Dr. William C. “Will” Thompson III is dedicated to helping patients of all ages live healthier, more active lives. Combining evidence-based medicine with a personalized approach to care, he enjoys building long-term relationships with patients and partnering with them to achieve their health goals.

Born and raised in Monroe City, Indiana, Dr. Thompson grew up just down the road from Thompson Family Clinic. As the grandson of the practice’s founder and the son of Dr. William C. “Tom” Thompson II, he spent much of his childhood in the office, watching firsthand the impact compassionate, relationship-centered healthcare could have on a community. Those experiences inspired him to continue the family’s three-generation legacy of caring for local families.

Dr. Thompson earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University before receiving his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.

He then completed his Family Medicine residency at Deaconess Hospital, where he developed advanced training in comprehensive primary care and sports medicine.

Today, Dr. Thompson provides comprehensive family medicine, preventive care, sports medicine, and treatment for acute illnesses and injuries. Whether caring for student athletes, active adults, or families seeking a trusted primary care physician, he believes every patient deserves individualized care, honest communication, and a physician who takes the time to listen.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Thompson is an avid pilot with a passion for general aviation. He enjoys flying for both travel and recreation and continues to expand his aviation knowledge and experience.

When he isn’t seeing his patients or flying, he enjoys hunting, fishing, technology, and Indiana University basketball. He believes healthcare is about more than diagnoses and treatment plans—it’s also about helping people find joy, maintain an active lifestyle, and live life to its fullest. As he often says, “Keeping a smile on your face and laughing can oftentimes be the best medicine.”

Real Stories. Real Care.

"Dr. Will Thompson is truly one of the best family care doctors I’ve ever had. From the very first visit, he has been incredibly welcoming, compassionate, and attentive. He takes the time to really listen and never makes you feel rushed — something that’s become all too rare in healthcare today."

"My husband and I have been through a lot , from cancer to heart attack and Dr. Thompson has been there to help us get through it all , I don’t know how I would have gotten through the cancer surgery w/o the girls to lean on for support. We have both been going to him for years."
